Do not reach overboard or stand in an unstable position to retrieve litter.
Work in pairs or small teams and maintain visual contact with other cleanup volunteers.
Stay clear of boat traffic and give operating vessels plenty of room.
Approach the boat launch and shoreline slowly and cautiously.
Never attempt to retrieve large, heavy, or submerged objects.
Do not handle needles, fishing hooks, chemical or fuel containers, dead animals, or other potentially hazardous materials. Mark the location and notify a cleanup leader.
Be alert for snakes, alligators, and other wildlife.
Watch for submerged stumps, fishing line, broken glass, and other hazards.
Cleanup activities may be stopped due to thunderstorms, high winds, dangerous water conditions, or other severe weather.
