  • The communities of Vermilion Parish are sprinkled with great retail destinations offering a wide assortment of items and services. Local artwork is discovered at the many museums and shops in the area, while other merchants are packed with antique treasures, furnishings, clothing, unique gifts and much more. Take a stroll in Downtown Abbeville or along Main Street in Kaplan to find many of the parish’s quaint shops.

In between the retailers is an eclectic mix of restaurants, serving up some of the finest Louisiana dishes around. From dirty rice, boudin and andouille, to cracklins, po’ boys, gumbo and the freshest seafood straight from the local waters, diners will never leave hungry. More than 20 authentic Cajun dining establishments, many of which have been around since the mid- to late-1900s, welcome patrons to savor the delicacies this region is known for. The Riverfront Restaurant, Dupuy’s Oyster Shop, Black Oyster Bar & Seafood, and Shuck’s are among the most notable of these locally owned Cajun eateries.

A trip up to Maurice will bring diners to Hebert’s Specialty Meats, the home of the original “turducken” (a stuffed chicken within a stuffed duck within a stuffed turkey). Not in the mood for Cajun? Vermilion Parish’s restaurant selection also includes classic American favorites, Mexican dishes and Asian-infused menus.
